What is this course?

Cutting Mastery is a two-day advanced cutting course designed for experienced stylists ready to refine precision, communication and technical control. Led by Michelle Summers Davies and Andrea Hayes, this programme focuses on the core foundations that shape every confident haircut — terminology, measurement, direction and technique.

Across two days, you will work through essential precision structures including the A-line bob, graduation with clipper-over-comb influence, and advanced layering using both travelling and stationary guides. Strong emphasis is placed on posture, stance and cutting position to improve accuracy and consistency behind the chair.

Through unique side-by-side demonstrations, the artist cuts while the educator mirrors every instruction, clearly showing how language, clarity and direction directly influence the final result.

Who is the ideal student?

Cutting Mastery is designed for experienced stylists who want to elevate their cutting to mastery level. If you are confident with basic and intermediate cutting but want deeper technical understanding, sharper precision and greater control, this course will challenge and refine your skills.

Learning Style

This is a face-to-face, hands-on cutting course combining structured demonstrations with guided mannequin practice. You will complete practical work across both days, supported by clear instruction and direct coaching.

Homework includes creating a mood board. On the final day, you will complete both a technical and written assessment, before recreating a final haircut using everything learned across the programme.

What do I bring?

Please bring your full hairdressing kit, including all necessary tools for colour services. You are also required to bring a real, live model who is happy to receive a hair colour service using Matrix products (no previous colour correction) and has undergone a skin test following the Matrix AAT guidelines.
